Steam Market Intelligence Playbook

Overview

A three part toolkit to help you gather various types of market intelligence for the Steam games marketplace.

Choose from the three dashboards – The Product Lookup, The Market Segment Explorer and the Future Trends. Each has an associated User Guide covering how to use each dashboard and how to perform different types of market intelligence analysis, such as Competitors Analysis, Business Model Analysis or Product Reviews.

Background

The tools contain data gathered from the Steam Store. From this, other data, such as sales and revenue have been estimated.

The dataset is a snapshot. The last data update was in 31/12/2022 date. The next planned update is 30/04/2023.

Some details, such as sales, pricing and discounts may have changed since then. Estimated sales and income data should be considered ballpark figures, but may not be accurate. Some of the data, such as Tags, are user generated. As such, they may not accurately describe the game, and may not be complete.

How are estimates calculated?

The estimated sales for a game is based on the number of reviews the game has received, the date of release, and the time it has been on sale.

Estimated income is based on the estimated game sales and game price, while also factoring in price discounting, regional discounts, sales taxes, and platform fees.

Estimated sales and income data should be considered ballpark figures, but may not be accurate.

Product Lookup Dashboard

The Product Lookup Dashboard contains details on over 54,000 games on Steam, including pricing, genres, tags and estimated sales and income. There are three ways to use the information, each with its own user guide.
