Women in Games returned to the InGAME R&D Centre for an Innovation Sprint. We take our first steps in tackling one of gaming’s most pervasive challenges.

The videogames sector currently has the lowest level of female representation of all UK creative industries, and Women in Games (Wig) has made it a strategic priority to affect change. InGAME Innovation Sprints are designed to create solutions to real-world problems in just two days, with these then then attracting investment and funding for further development before becoming new products, services, initiatives or experiences. WiG arrived in Dundee with the hope of increasing their reach and impact, particularly beyond London and the South East. Our handpick participants worked to imagine and design protype solutions that demonstrate how a micro third sector organization can have meaningful and lasting impact at national and international scale.Marie-Claire Isaaman, CEO of WiG, co-hosted the first event with InGAME R&D Fellow Dr Chris Lowthorpe, in the InGAME R&D Centre. She said: “Women in Games is delighted to be partnering with InGAME to imagine innovative solutions to enhancing gender equality in such a dynamic and talent-rich games ecosystem as Dundee. Often third sector organizations are London-centric, and that’s not what we want to be.”Our links with the Dundee cluster are getting stronger and stronger; Outplay Entertainment is a very supportive Corporate Ambassador, the amazing Ruth Falconer from Abertay University joined the Executive Board last year, and now we’re running this Innovation Sprint with InGAME.”Our champions come from a diversity of sectors, all united by one thing: a recognition of the unique innovation potential of games and play. Future InGAME Innovation Sprints will focus on themes such as ageing society, agriculture, clean energy, healthcare and more. For more information about InGAME Innovation Sprints, get in touch.
